WHAT WE DO
The Big Science Project aims to excite, inspire and promote Science subjects to children aged 6-18. This is achieved through fun and fully interactive sessions where they can fully immerse themselves as research scientists for the day.
Our sessions can be run anywhere and everywhere- in school halls or delivering on behalf of businesses in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) sector. Our objective is to inspire future scientists and give them the skills and knowledge required to fully understand day to day activities that are undertaken by everyday scientists.
OUR TEAM
The Big science project was established in 2018 by Dr Helen Whiteland who has over 15 years’ experience working in a range of scientific sectors including the pharmaceutical industry, academia sectors including: Cancer research, parasitology research, development of new assays, and development of new treatments for diseases. Helen has also presented at a vast range of conferences both nationally and internationally and published her research in scientific journals (Have a read of these publications by following the button below). Helen’s passion and enthusiasm over the years of promoting science to school children is what has led her to establish The Big Science Project!
All our sessions are led and provided by Helen alongside a team that are fully trained and just as passionate about science as she is. We aim to follow the national curriculum, as well as enhance on this to broaden the scientific subjects too.
More information
We are fully insured, have all the necessary Health and Safety documents and risk assessments to make it a smooth transition from the moment of booking to the day of the science session. All members of The Big Science Project are fully DBS checked too for peace of mind.
Through each session children will begin to learn and understand the process of experiment planning, following protocols, interpreting results, and on occasion presenting any data they have. They will be actively encouraged to discuss their results in groups and also critically analyse data sets on their own- at all times done in an exciting and fun manner.
A Word
From Our Founder
“I have so much passion for science and enjoy engaging and spreading the scientific word to school children! I have loved a range of Scientific subjects since I was young, and have developed an exciting array of experiments that will allow children to get as excited as I do. Join us in one of our fun and numerous Science sessions and see what it’s all about “
